Cat Power Lacks Strength

Cat Power and the Dirty Delta Blues gave a great performance Last night at the State Theater in St. Petersburg. Her voice and energy were great as well as the band. I do wish she would have made better choices in her song selection . After about 40 minutes in I could read the dismay and boredom of most fans faces. The only songs that really gave the crowd a spark were cover versions of "Tracks of my Tears" and "I can't get no Satisfaction". Besides that , I felt like I was slowly being put to sleep song after song. We also had the 25 minute impromptu break during the set because no one told Ms. Marshall that it gets hot down here in Florida. She was nice enough to bring us water and N/A beer after she cooled down. This would have been cute if the energy for the show was up, but it wasn't. After refreshments she began to put the crowd to sleep again. Song after song the crowd began to slowly leave, giving up hope on hearing "their" favorite song. It is still before 11:00 but, I also decide to throw in the towel and go next door at Nelly's to have drink. Either I am getting old (and tired) or that show was boring.

South Florida Bulls beaten by Officials

I am sorry if I may sound like one of those rabid sports fan that has to find a reason why his/her team lost, But... USF's lost to Rutgers on Thursday was determined by a power bigger than the two football teams. I have watched football for all of my life and have never seen a game where one team received so many favorable calls. Not just penalty's but; calls, reversals, unsportsmanlike like penalty's, & a rarely called offensive pass interference penalty at the end of a game. I was also puzzled by the fact that our local papers did not mention any of these "calls" in their review of the game. I really do not think I am overreacting. I watched the game without sound and could not here the commentators take on the game's questionable calls. Nor do I watch the pre and post game babble or ESPN talk TV. So what do you think? I am not debating any specific call ( those are all debatable individually ) but the timing of the calls and the combined whole of negative rulings against USF.
